Digital Project Kickoff Checklist
How to kick off a digital product or platform project. A practical starting point for owners, teams and digital delivery leads.
A successful digital initiative begins with clarity. This guide organises common priorities into manageable steps so you can test assumptions and work confidently with technology partners.
01. Define the business outcome
Document what improvement the project is supposed to create. Tie the objective to a measurable user, cost or revenue outcome.
02. Map the people involved
Identify the sponsor, users, delivery lead, approvers, developers, designer, content owners and operational teams.
03. Identify constraints early
Surface budget, security, integrations, data quality, support, deadlines and external dependencies before finalising the plan.
04. Create an acceptance definition
Define what ready means at every milestone, including testing, documentation, data handling and operational ownership.
05. Plan communication
Agree a cadence for decisions, risks, demonstrations and escalations. Ambiguity often costs more than technical complexity.
What to do next
Turn your findings into a one-page brief, identify unresolved questions and agree which decisions need specialist input. Use the project brief builder or sprint planner to make the next step more concrete.
